Walahfrid Strabo’s “Hortulus” and Monastic Medicine

The didactic poem Liber de cultura hortorum (abbreviated to "Hortulus") was probably written between 842 and 849, probably on the island Reichenau in Lake Constance. The 444 hexameters, written in Latin and of high literary rank, are full of detailed observations of nature.
